Our Mission

A STEM community founded by graduate students. For graduate students.

The Minority Graduate Student Network (MGSN) is an organization founded and maintained by underrepresented minority graduate students in the biomedical and natural sciences.

Our mission is to create a community to help retain and increase the number of underrepresented minority graduate students pursuing graduate degrees in the sciences.  To achieve this aim, we work to provide the following:

  • Academic/research support

  • Mentoring opportunities with established scientists

  • Career and personal development workshops

  • Mixers to foster networking and collaborations

  • Community outreach projects

We have established a community for graduate students to interact with their peers as well as with post-doctoral fellows, established scientists, and other professionals. Members of MGSN include Master's, Ph.D., and M.D./Ph.D. students who attend academic institutions in the New York City metropolitan area and conduct research in a variety of fields, including but not limited to cancer, immunology, neuroscience, and microbiology. Although our membership is made up of minority graduate students, our events are open to and can benefit students from all fields and backgrounds.
